Are the U.S. and China on a war footing in space?

China’s space ambitions have raised concerns within the Pentagon. | STR/AFP/Getty Images Defense Trump wants a Space Force, Beijing is developing weapons it could use in orbit, and ‘there is not a lot of dialogue’ between the two countries. By JACQUELINE FELDSCHER and LIU ZHEN | SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST 06/16/2019 05:00 PM EDT A top Chinese general has a warning for any U.S. leaders planning an arms race in space: Be prepared to lose. Outspending a rival power into economic exhaustion might have helped the U.S. win the Cold…

Rename the South China Sea

We should work on the change of the name of South China Sea to South Asian Sea. This is a puny move but will help put China in its proper place. I suggest that we initiate moves in the proper world forum, perhaps the United Nations, to have the name of South China Sea changed to South Asian Sea. This should not be difficult in view of the decision of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the South China Sea case filed by the Philippines. RENE TORRES Makati City Read…

Senate Considering South China Sea Sanctions on China as Massive Trade War Rattles Relations

A bipartisan group of U.S. senators will reintroduce legislation Thursday that would allow the government to sanction Chinese individuals and groups involved in Beijing’s activity in the South and East China Seas. The South China Sea and East China Sea Sanctions Act—sponsored by Republican Senators Marco Rubio of Florida and Tom Cotton of Arkansas, and Democratic Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland—was designed to pressure China to cease its enforcement of territorial claims in the waters off the country’s coast, The South China Morning Post reported. If it is signed into…

I Lost the (Simulated) Battle for the South China Sea Thanks to 1 Thing

Kyle Mizokami Security, My Littoral Combat Ship did not have the needed firepower.  China Wins: I Lost the (Simulated) Battle for the South China Sea Thanks to 1 Thing Worst of all, in order to bring what meager firepower each had to bear against the enemy, the LCS had to bring itself within range of multiple Chinese weapon systems. The year is 2016, and two of the U.S. Navy’s latest ships are backing a key ally in the tinderbox of the South China Sea. They’re facing down the Chinese navy…

China’s Aircraft Carrier Battle Group Emerges

Commentary It’s been a long time coming, but Japanese reports on June 11 revealed that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its People’s Liberation Army (PLA) have realized a long-held ambition—to build and deploy an aircraft carrier battle group. That means that China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) isn’t just able to deploy an aircraft carrier with a working air-wing of combat aircraft, but this carrier is also protected by escort combat ships, and is sustained by large, fast replenishment ships. This allows the carrier to undertake offensive missions against…

Turbulent seas | Philstar.com

For sure President Duterte is aware of the comments: he’s ready to declare war over garbage sales contracted by private parties, but his silence is deafening when Chinese believed to be maritime militias hit and sink a Filipino fishing boat and then abandon the fishermen to the elements. The sinking in Recto or Reed Bank is particularly sensitive because it is one of just three spots in the South China Sea over which the Philippines was specifically awarded sovereign rights by the UN-backed Permanent Court of Arbitration or PCA in…

BREAKING: If USA, Britain keep Diego Garcia China Gets South China Sea, Duterte gets zip.

The Philippines is a victimized innocent in one of Trump’s wars. But not just the delightfully innocent Filipinos, all Asians are in grave danger as war looms ominously in the heads of some hawkish old men in the White House. Extreme nastiness today against China is led by Donald Trump, the US Navy and US Coast Guard, far from their home, plying China’s claimed territorial waters of the South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait. Beijing got angry and ordered that an innocent American ally be punished. A Philippines vessel…
