Chinese warplanes to get new coatings to make them harder to detect

Chinese military aircraft are to be painted with “low observable” coatings and standardised markings under new guidelines, a move observers say will assist with operations near Taiwan and in the East and South China seas. The guidelines require markings including the national flag and service insignia to be gradually standardised on both active and future warplanes, the official PLA Daily newspaper said earlier this month. The move comes two years after the Chinese navy started experimenting with its J-16 strike fighter, using a dark grey low-visibility coating instead of blue-grey,…

Marines Plan to Retool to Meet China Threat

The Marine Corps is undertaking its most sweeping transformation in decades, pivoting from a focus on fighting insurgents in the Middle East to developing the ability to hop from island to island in the western Pacific to bottle up the Chinese fleet. The 10-year plan to revamp the Corps, scheduled to be unveiled this week, follows years of classified U.S. wargames that revealed China’s missile and naval forces to be eroding American military advantages in the region. … Source link

A pathogen causing havoc has revealed the real face of China

The coronavirus pandemic will be over one day, perhaps in a few months, perhaps in a year and a half. By then, it could be a different world. But one good thing that I hope comes out of this is that we will recognize China for what it is, the threat it poses to the world. Covid-19 should serve as a mega-decibel wake-up call. The first Covid-19 case was spotted in Wuhan in mid-November. As the number of cases rose, the Chinese regime’s first reaction was to go into denial,…

China’s Y-20 Transport Plane: Sending Coronavirus Supplies and Refueling Bombers?

Whatever one concludes about China’s response to Coronavirus, there is little doubt that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has been on the front line of the effort to stem the virus from an early point. The pages of China’s military newspapers are filled with heroic accounts of the work of Chinese military nurses and doctors.  An important symbol of the PLA’s effort to send medical personnel and related supplies into Wuhan has been the appearance of the Y-20 large transport aircraft. These new planes could be seen disgorging supplies and…

China’s J/H-XX Fighter Interceptor Could Be Quite Dangerous

Every year, the International Institute for Strategic Studies publishes a thorough assessment of the capabilities and defence economics of militaries around the globe. The 2020 edition of The military balance covers 171 countries and provides a disconcerting deep dive into Chinese military technology. The IISS’s sober analysis of the People’s Liberation Army Air Force’s stealthy new fifth-generation J/H-XX jet adds substance to what had been only educated guesswork in a number of forums. So, what does the development of this sophisticated aircraft mean for Australian operations risks in the 2020s? The IISS…
